These annoying enemies are called Chain Chomps but can often be found off the posts holding them down, or sometimes even off their chains. In Super Mario Sunshine, one is roaming around in a certain level where Mario must cool it off long enough to drag it by the chain to a pool to cool it permanently. During a cameo appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, a Chain Chomp will violently hurl itself at you until reaching it's chain's limit.
